Since 1907 Engelbert's Jewelers has been serving the families of central New York when Martin J. Engelbert opened M. J. Engelbert & Co. in Rome, NY. Now, 100 years later, David Engelbert and Sarah Engelbert Rushton are continuing their family tradition. David joined his father, Clarence, and his brother, Bruce, in the family business in 1960. Shortly thereafter, the store became incorporated and changed it name to Engelbert's Jewelers, Inc. In 1974 the business expanded by opening up a branch store in Utica, NY.
Engelbert's Jewelers has an established reputation for strict business ethics and a thorough knowledge of the identification and grading of diamonds and colored stones. Today, David's daughter, Sarah, has become the fourth generation of Engelberts to join the firm. She graduated from the Gemological Institute of America, also known as GIA, with a Graduate Gemologist degree. Their branch store has moved to the New Hartford Shopping Center in New Hartford, NY and is managed by David's brother-in-law, Bruce Hanno.
